Celebrate our birthday and win an iPad!

The Garden is a year old. It’s been a year since we launched our online community and to celebrate, we’re inviting you to take part in a competition. Our favourite entry will win an iPad!

Sounds great, what do I have to do?

It’s easy! Register to join or sign into The Garden and complete one of three activities:

  1. Use the ‘Stories’ tool to tell us about why you love your home or community. You can upload an image, a GIF, a video, or leave a message
  2. Use the ‘Places’ tool to tell us about a person or service in your neighbourhood who goes above and beyond to help people, by dropping a pin in the map and telling us a little more.
  3. Use the ‘Ideas board’ to share ideas about how we can enhance your local community.

Our competition runs from 20 January 2022, and closes at midnight on 28 February 2022. To enter, you need to be a verified Catalyst customer, be 18 or over and a registered participant on The Garden. For full terms and conditions, see the document in the Terms and Conditions section on the right hand side of the page.

Your Story, Idea or Pin may not be published straight away, as it'll be checked by moderators before being published. We'll let you know as soon as it is published.

  • Celebrating your community

When we launched our competition to mark The Garden’s first birthday, we asked you to share your ideas to enhance your local community.

We received great ideas from you – check them out on our Ideas board. There were two ideas which stood out. These were:

    • Running a community event or service, like a community pantry, or a volunteer group, or a celebration lunch.
    • Working with your neighbours and friends, and with us, to run clean up and litter-picking events in your neighbourhood.

We wanted to tell you a little bit more about how you can do those things.

    Running community events

If you live in a Catalyst home, you’re able to apply to our Community Support Fund for a grant, which is provided by the Catalyst Housing Charitable Trust (CHCT).

CHCT provides small grants to customers, helping them to organise events and projects in neighbourhoods which bring people together - everything from trips to the seaside, community socials, and celebratory parties . But it can also be used for:

    • Community events such as street parties or fetes
    • Community projects such as buying equipment for local stay and play sessions
    • Green spaces if you’d like to improve community spaces with new plants and trees.

So why not think of an event or project you’d like to organise in your neighbourhood?

How to apply for a grant from the Community Support Fund

The grant application process is simple – complete the application form and tell us about the purpose of your event or project and how you plan to use the funding. Find out more about the CHCT and request an application form

Litter picking and community clean up events

We think community clean up days are a great idea – and we’d be happy to help you to organise one! If this is something you’d like to do, the best person for you to talk to is your Neighbourhood Customer Specialist. If you haven’t met them yet, then you can find out who they are

    Got other ideas?

We’d love to hear them! Let us know how we can help you to enhance your community by leaving a comment below.

  • And we have a winner!

A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone that entered our competition to celebrate our first birthday. We loved reviewing the entries and it was difficult to choose a winner!

Our winning entry comes from Imrico. Her “Home away from home” story was heart-warming. Imrico told us:

I have been staying here in Lockbridge for 5years now. I am not born and raised here in the UK, therefore back then I was praying and hoping to find a good safe environment and flat that I could say my 'home away from home'.

True enough, looking back the past 5years was full of fun happy memories wherein I met new friends and my 2nd family. I’m working in NHS and glad to say that most people I met here are also frontliners wherein we shared the same sentiments, feelings and worries too. The past 2yrs have been truly challenging due to covid but glad to find new friends here who became my constants and support system. This has helped me overcome my fears and anxiety at the same time be of service to people who need care and compassion.

I am grateful to have this keyworker’s accommodation from Catalyst, for the past 5years this has become my shelter and home away from home.

This is where I learnt to be independent and strong, to stay positive amidst the challenges and adversities and to continue to dream.

We loved hearing about how Imrico has created a home and community for her and her family.

Well done Imrico – we’re happy you have a positive space to retreat to and hope you enjoy your iPad!

Keep your eye on the news feed to see what we’re doing with the great ideas you’ve given us. We look forward to working with you to make a real difference in your community.
